Once you arrive at our office, please check-in at the registration desk. You will be given a packet of materials to complete in our reception area. A certified ophthalmic technician will greet you and initiate your eye evaluation. The technician will review your ocular, medical and family history, evaluate your vision and take special eye measurements.

Next, depending on your visual needs, you will see Dr. Shingleton or one of our optometrists, Dr. Mark O'Donoghue, Dr. Teresa Stone, Dr. Claudine Kawabata or Dr. Anmarie Russo. Dr. Shingleton's colleagues provide comprehensive eye examinations and specialize in refraction with the use of glasses or contact lenses. Dr. O'Donoghue, Dr. Stone,  Dr. Kawabata and Dr. Russo. have a collective experience of over 40 years in the eye care field. They will examine your eyes thoroughly. If your eyes are healthy, you will have the option of leaving after their examination. To shorten your stay in our office, Dr. O'Donoghue, Dr. Stone and Dr. Kawabata will review your eye care plan with Dr. Shingleton after you have left.

If a vision problem is detected, if you were referred to Dr. Shingleton for a specific problem, or if specific needs arise, you will be examined by Dr. Shingleton. You will receive eye drops that require 10 to 30 minutes to dilate your eye. The eye drops may blur your vision, especially for close work, for 8 to 12 hours. Once you have received your eye drops, you are escorted to the examination area to rest until your eyes are fully dilated. Our technician will point out materials pertaining to your particular situation that you may wish to peruse or take for future reference.

Dr. Shingleton will then examine your eyes and review your initial evaluation findings. Depending on his findings and your special needs, further testing may be performed. Dr. Shingleton, Dr. O'Donoghue, Dr. Stone, Dr. Russo and Dr. Kawabata will then explain their examination findings and recommendations for your treatment.

Most patients can expect to spend one to three hours in our office for an initial visit. Special consultations may require more time. Please let us know if there is anything special we can do prior to your arrival to make your visit more productive.
