| Dr Shingleton was a Honored Guest Lecturer at the All India Ophthalmology Society Meeting |
Dr Shingleton was a Honored Guest Lecturer at the All India Ophthalmology Society Meeting in Indore, India February 12-15, 2019. Thousands of ophthalmologists from around the world attended the meeting and Dr Shingleton lectured on the topic "Cataract Surgery in the Setting of Pseudoexfoliation".
Dr Shingleton also visited the Chennai, Pondicherry, Tiruneveli and Madurai sites of the Aravind Eye Care System and gave Grand Round presentations on cataract and glaucoma surgery. The Aravind Eye Care teams provided care to over 4.5 million patients in 2018 and performed over 500,000 surgical procedures. Dr Shingleton and the Aravind ophthalmologists have had a close relationship for over 35 years and doctors from Aravind Eye Care System come frequently to the US to observe Dr Shingleton in surgery. Our OCB glaucoma fellows also have the option to spend a month at the Aravind Tiruneveli facility each year.
Dr Shingleton lived in Madras, India in 1961 when his father worked at the Guindy College of Engineering. He attended the Madras Christian College School and has many fond memories from his year spent in India. He returned to India in 1981 to perform surgery at the Aravind Eye Clinic in Madurai.
